A Query for the people

I was approached the other day by a friend that asked me if Aegis would ever consider opening a room on Oasiz. Rp has caused many to go underground or quit and he felt with the quality of rp that we had here we could help add a room that people who were like minded about rp could find their way to.

Roleplay has always been about interaction. If there is no interaction then there is no roleplay. I know that Aegis became a closed community because of asshats(Savannah Lion comes to mind). However I noticed with the additon of Letala who came from Oasiz that there was a sparkle in our rp again. I am not saying that we dont have good rp but adding new personalities, with ideas and styles could help us find new stories and help our charchters grow.

I talked about this with Rae. I suggested that perhaps two or three times a week we open a room on Oasiz. We of course will want controls so that we are subject to idiots, but it would give us place to interact with new people and in doing so show them what we have to offer. Like Letala, they could find a home here.

I am not talking about letting every person that can string a sentance together in our forums. We could have a set of rules by which we weed out those people with likeminded rp views and those that are simply trolls.

Yes there will be trolls but gems, like Letala could be found as well. It would also be a good place to try out a new charchter if you wish.

Opinions and querys, ideas are welcome. I know its a foray into the unknown again but if we set perimeters in place I think it could be a good thing. Its not about simply getting bodies but getting good rpers that have been hungering for a mature group of people to play with.

I think it's a great idea. We started out in a chat room. I know we've tried bringing chat back right here on the site, but it's so hard to get all the existing members together long enough to play. Opening a chat room on an external site might bring more people back here. I won't lie, though, finding the time to spend in a chat room might be difficult. The way my home life is, for example, I really never know when I'm going to have enough time to get anything done. Sometimes I have an hour to do things, sometimes I can only snatch a minute or two here and there. I don't think I would feel comfortable committing to any specific times. However, if other people are there and I did manage to have the time, or after my kids are in bed, I'd really love to do some chat room RPing again.

Secondly (and get ready for my rant it might be lengthy) I think opening a room is a great idea. But with that said. Oasiz as I have found it is hard to just open a room and have people come in without having a large following, ie the current citizens of Aegis need to come to the room. I am a STRONG believer that for a room to work it needs to be a group effort from everyone not just the golds. But opening the room once or twice a week could lean to just keep the room open for us, which I personally am not opposed to either. But to really gain new comers I think we need people who can be in the room 24/7 if not actually there someone who can sit in the room and have it open all the time. As for making it somewhat restricted, because yes there are a lot of drama filled individuals lurking in Oasiz, the rules need to be clearly established but also not just for the guest but the hosts and golds. I have seen way too many rooms destroyed by interbickering of those who started the room. I know it is silly to say but people get power hungry, not that I am saying I think people of Aegis are like that but sometimes people get caught and it becomes a downward spiral.

I think there is a lot of good and bad points in opening the room. I personally would love to have a room. I won't have a lot of time but I do miss the days of being able to RP in rooms, as much as forum RP is equally enjoyable it can be a bit slow and bring stories to a halt.

Opening a room would give a place to do chat room RP which would hopefully bring in new people to the site. I came to Aegis because the room I ran on Oasiz fell and it fell hard after 2 years of hard work, it was like a very very messy break up so I still have a bit of a negative view of the drama that comes with opening a room, not just on Oasiz but anywhere. I tend to be biased and Ill be the first to admit that, partially to the fact that I would hate to put in that much work again and see a place I love fall. I think opening a room is a crap load of work. I have always wanted to open a Realm on Oasiz but I don't have the time and I know it becomes overbearing for some. The golds become bogged down by the drama that comes with the room and people lose the desire to rp at all. But I digress, Rae knows me and knows I am willing to fight for something I believe in. I believe Aegis is a great place with wonderful players and could be a great room addition to Oasiz. But again it is going to take everyone to put in effort into the room I believe. I personally know my schedule is crazy so making a set time wouldn't work for me but as Amara said to have a place to go to when im in the mood to rp in the chats would be great to have.

I am willing to do what I can to help push toward opening a room on Oasiz. Just let me know.

Sorry for the rants and my words are just that. I have meet some great people on Oasiz but also some really bad seeds. Its a risk as most things are. So if we have a large enough committed group to wanting to RP in a chat room, and Rae feels comfortable doing so and we can place all the right leaders for the room in line I say why not.

I didn't think you ranted in the least bit, Letala. I had to pause to wonder how good this would be for Aegis and although I'm all for new members part of me worries about the hassle of opening a new room.

Opening a chatroom might be interesting but troublesome. However, I would attend and support it if its something everyone else wants to do. We have a chatroom here on the site that barely gets used and I think part of that reason is that we all have jobs/courses that demand a lot of our time.

Also, would the storylines from the chatroom clash here with whats already going? Yes, I agree with Letala, it certainly is slow but at least we all know where we stand and whats going on. If we don't, its easy enough to read up on. Perhaps, if storyline does occur in the new chatroom, it would have to be posted up on the site also? Thats how it used to be done.

Another uneasy concern for me happens to be other realms on Oasiz. I'm not overly familiar with it anymore, but from what I remember we've never really gotten along with any of them. Would we be expected to travel and mingle with other realms and would our titles be taken seriously there? Will there be any game play that stretches out to the other realms? Again, the Savannah disaster comes to mind and fills my head with dread.

Those are my thoughts, sorry if they sound negative. I'm curious as to how all this will be pulled off so that there is no damage to Aegis.

I dont think we can say no damage to Aegis will happen. What I can say that every effort to keep drama away will be instituted. The gains that can be made to me are worth the effort. I would like my charchter and my OCC muse to grow and to be spurned by others. I think that the story writing here is good, dont get me wrong but I think a fresh approach instead of status quo could be good as well.

As far as other realms, well the pickings are a bit slim on Oasiz and we can have as much or as little contact as we wish. The thing to remember is just like it will be for us, when you are in someone elses realm its their rules. I would expect people to follow the rules set down by Aegis when they are in Aegis.

I hope more people respond, and thanks for everyone that has responded so far. I think it could be a good step for us and I know that Rae would like all the ducks in a row before we venture as well. So please keep your concerns coming and perhaps we can come up with strategys that will put people more at ease.

Some members have grown complacent within Aegis, and thats perfectly well and good - but perhaps its time to reassess what we have here.

Aegis is an excellent realm, why not show it off within Oasiz? I certainly see no harm in the venture, especially with the exciting prospect that we might catch a few more players who love this realm as much as we do. Interaction with fresh blood of late has become an utter joy and I relish doing so with others of a like minded nature.

You have my support on the matter. I have already spoken to Rae and I have offered to be a hammer in the room to monitor its members IC and OOC.

I enjoyed rp'ing in the old msn chatrooms and here. I have no qualms with doing so again.

I am just bumping this up for anyone who has missed it. I know summer is a busy time but so far everyone seems agreeable. I would like to give this another week and if we here no other protests Rae perhaps we can get together those that have expressed intrest in helping and make some ground rules?
